A Stranger Told Me I Looked Healthy. Here’s Why It Meant So Much.
How do you know when you’re truly living in alignment with your values?
Sometimes the answer shows up in the most unexpected places.
Today I was strolling the river walk in Pagosa Springs when a gentleman passed me and paid me one of the nicest compliments I’ve ever received.
“You look healthy.”
The impact of that comment was huge. Partly because health is one of my core values, and I love when my values reflect outwardly.
But it meant even more because I had recently slipped into some habits that weren’t serving me. I was eating poorly. My alcohol consumption had crept up. And my exercise routine had fallen off.
Just the weekend before, I decided to get back on track.
I removed the things that weren’t aligned with how I want to live. I added more salads and fresh fruits and vegetables back into my diet. I skipped the drinking. I got in both a great run and a strength workout. And the night before this walk, I went to bed early so I could start the day with energy.
It felt really good to be back in alignment with my value of health.
And for someone else to notice it? That was an incredible moment of validation—especially knowing the shift had started just a few days earlier.
But here’s the real reason I’m sharing this story.
When life feels messy or off-track, the answer is often simpler than we think. Come back to your values.
Remove the distractions. Let go of the habits that pull you away from the person you want to be. Recommit to what matters.
Because when you’re living in alignment, it shows.
Sometimes in your energy.
Sometimes in the opportunities that appear.
And sometimes in a passing stranger who simply says:
“You look healthy.”
